Farhan Zaidi, President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants, addressed the recently-failed deal with Carlos Correa and the events that led to the Giants backing out on their offer. Due to certain concerns raised in his physical, the Giants were reported to be uncertain in making a decision.

This particular turn of events shocked the baseball world on Wednesday morning. The Giants had set up a press conference to introduce their newest star at Oracle Park on Dec. 20th but canceled the meeting just three hours prior. However, the Giants finally threw some light on the whole situation.

Correa’s deal fell through just hours before it was to be official

Zaidi addressed reporters in a Zoom call, stating, “We’ve had some conversations. Since then, obviously, you know, we’ve been in touch with Boras on other players as well.” He also added, “But our understanding and, as it’s been reported, they’re focused on a deal elsewhere at this point. So I think chances of a deal with us at this point are pretty unlikely based on their position.”

The President of Baseball for the San Francisco Giants expressed his ‘frustration’ at the prolonged Correa situation. Zaidi has met particular criticism this off-season, as the Giants were also looking to sign big-name Aaron Judge. But the slugger went on to renew his deal with the Yankees, even becoming captain.

Zaidi also addressed concerns over the last-minute cancelations, “Any suggestion that this was an 11th-hour thing is just not accurate.” He added, “As soon as we had information, we shared it.”

As for Carlos Correa, what next?

Scott Boras, Correa’s agent, has reportedly been in talks with other teams. “…They [Giants] wanted to continue to talk, but at this time they couldn’t go forward. And then I advised them that I had to pursue alternative measures on behalf of Carlos with other teams.”

As of now, it looks like the shortstop will be signing a $315 dollar deal with the New York Mets. He will join fellow Puerto Rican player Francisco Lindor and move to third base on the left side of New York’s infield.

Notably, the 2021 American League Platinum Glove Award winner has previously dealt with back and ankle injuries and even underwent surgery for an injured fibula in the Minor League. But he has averaged 142 games in the last two seasons and it looks like he has no plans to stop just yet.
