Recently, ESPN released a teaser of the series in which Jeter is talking about his younger days. Jeter said that he used to follow Johnny Damon since his younger days. And he would tell his parents that one day he will get there, where Johnny was.
“I am a hyper-focused man, and that’s on anything. I set my mind to some and I’ll do anything to make it happen… USA Today, every year would have the high school all-American team and I would tell my parents, I am going to be on this one day,” Jeter said. “Johnny Damon was the number one rated high school player. I did not know Johnny, but his name now is my head. So it’s like alright, well, I am going to get up there where Johnny is.”

Jeter also opened up that he did not want to be the best player in Kalamazoo or even in Michigan. But the Yankees legend wanted to be the best player in his high school, which he eventually became.
“I was always going to set a goal and I was going to set it to go high. Didn’t want to be the best player in Kalamazoo, did not want to be the best player in Michigan. I wanted to be the best player in high school and I was able to do it,” Jeter added.

An inspiration to many people, Derek Jeter also got his MLB Hall of Fame induction in 2020. “The Captain” will release on July 18 on ESPN.
