New York Mets’ 2022 regular season was an absolute rollercoaster. No doubt about that! And now, the Mets are having even a better time during the ongoing offseason. Recently, the Mets signed star free agent Carlos Correa, and to make him feel home, the Steven Cohen-owned team has done something incredible that probably no other MLB has ever done for their players.

Notably, before landing a $315 million contract with the Mets, Correa had an agreement with the San Francisco Giants on a $350 million deal. However, the Giants’ deal collapsed at the last moment and billionaire Cohen made the most out of that situation to get Correa’s signature for his team.

Correa’s transfer to New York was grand, but hard on the Mets’ payroll

As a result of failing the medical with the San Francisco Giants, after the World Champion started hunting for houses in the Bay Area, the Giants pulled out of the Correa deal. Subsequently, the Mets entered the bargain and pretty much stole the two-time All-Star for a deal that offered him $35 million, and one year less.

Now, after Correa signed the $315 million deal for 12 years, the Mets sent a private plane to deliver the 2020 Fielding Bible Award winner from Houston to New York. As reported by MLB insider Jon Heyman, “Mets sent a private plane to transport Carlos Correa to NYC from Houston for the physical.”

Seemingly, the New York Mets hold one of the most powerful rosters in the MLB. Correa’s addition only makes the team look unbeatable. In the tweet, Jon Heyman continues to mention praises for the Mets. He said, “First class organization (or even better in this case).”

All in all, this instance is just a tiny representation of the New York Mets and their opulent ownership. They treat their players well, and in return, create unsaid incentives for their stars to perform even better.

Carlos Correa – an unlucky free agent

After the 2017 World Champion left the 2021 season with the Golden Glove, Platinum Glove, and Fielding Bible awards, he made the untimely decision to leave Houston. However, that was simply the beginning of his unfitting luck, which extended to the Astros winning the 2022 World Series, without Correa.

While the shortstop bagged a giant $105 million, three-year deal with the Twins, it didn’t do him any good. Eventually, he entered the free market, failed the physical with Giants, and signed a contract that was significantly lesser than his original deal, and almost $10 million less in terms of his yearly earnings with the Twins.
