“I Might Be Fighting Manny Pacquiao”- Dustin Poirier Reveals Surprise Plans

The long-awaited official announcement is here. It is now official that ‘The Notorious’ will take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23. The fight will most likely take place on Fight Island and is set to be one of the biggest lightweight fights ever between two of the best at 155 pounds. 

The rematch between the two men comes seven years on from their first fight. A lot has changed in seven years. For starters, the fight will be at 155 pounds, whereas the first fight was at 145 pounds. Both men have evolved their game considerably and are two of the finest fighters not only in the division but also in the UFC.

Dustin Poirier warns Conor McGregor and his team to not underestimate him

In a recent interview, Mike Bohn asked Dustin what he was expecting from Conor going into the fight. He replied:

I’m sure he is always evolving. I’m sure he is always working, trying to get better. I think because he has been submitted, and he is such a big puncher people dismiss his ground game…

“I’m not underestimating this guy in any aspect of MMA. I expect the guy to come out as a mixed martial artist and not a boxer. He’s coming to fight and so am I.”

Conor McGregor and his team have been very vocal about wanting to fight Manny Pacquiao next. Given that they’re both under the same management team, a fight is very likely. Bohn asked Dustin his thoughts on the same and if he felt he was being taken lightly. 

The Diamond’ replied saying, “He might be and that might be a huge mistake. A huge mistake. I might be fighting Pacquiao.”

The last time the two men fought, ‘The Diamond’ was stopped in the very first round of the fight. However, since then Dustin has moved up and matured as a fight and has become a more complete martial artist.


Therefore, it will not be as easy as it was the first time for ‘The Notorious’ and taking him lightly would be a grave mistake. If Conor were to get past Dustin Poirier, do you think he fights Manny Pacquiao next? Let us know in the comments below.
