Brandon Moreno made UFC history when he became the first Mexican-born champion in the UFC after choking out Deiveson Figueiredo in round three of their fight at UFC 263. The two men put on a fight of the year display at UFC 256 when they fought for the first time. Moreno and Figueiredo went toe-to-toe in the first fight. However, in the second fight, it was nowhere as close as Moreno earned a decisive win.

Mexico has always produced some incredible talent in combat sports. Some of the all-time greats in boxing have hailed from Mexico. The most recent name being Canelo Alvarez. ‘The Assassin Baby’ was recently spotted training with the likes of Andy Ruiz, Canelo Alvarez, and Oscar Valdez, under the watchful eye of multiple-time coach of the year winner, Eddy Reynoso.

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Moreno shared his thoughts on training with Canelo and what might be next. He said, “Man definitely not, he is the best in the world right now in boxing right? He is the best pound-for-pound in the world. Right now it was just advice, but he was open the gym for me for the future. So maybe in my next training camp, I can go with him and get some advice from him and his coach too.”

Moreno is known for primarily being a striker. If he were to work under the likes of Eddy Reynoso and Canelo Alvarez, there is no doubt his striking skills would improve considerably. That is a scary proposition for the rest of the division. Given Moreno is only 27, the scope for growth is immense.

He has stated that he would like to defend his belt before the end of this year. However, as he is not interested in fighting Figueiredo again, he may fight Askar Askarov or Cody Garbrandt.
