‘I’m Coming For That Belt’- Marvin Vettori Hits The Gym Days After His Loss To Israel Adesanya At UFC 263

Former UFC middleweight title contender Marvin Vettori now has lost twice in a row to the kingpin Israel Adesanya. The champ romped back off the cage after successfully defending his crown in the headliner of UFC 263.
The event also saw a title exchange when former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo submitted to Brandon Moreno in the co-main event. In another high-profile clash, Leon Edwards survived a late scare and picked up a unanimous decision over Nate Diaz.
Coming back to Vettori, the Italian was confident ahead of his rematch vs ‘The Last Stylebender’. But Adesanya, as shown through his career, constantly evolves in every other match. He thwarted Vettori’s attempts and ended their rivalry, at least for now.

Vettori, though, is in no mood to give up his title dream. In his latest Instagram post, ‘The Italian Dream’ shares his objective as he hits the gym just 48 hours after the match.
“48 hours, 48 hours motherf*ckers. 48 hours it took me to get back to work,” he said. “I’m gonna show you all how it’s done, gonna show you all how it’s done. I’m coming for that belt stronger than ever.”

Vettori (17-5), fighting in his first title fight, started aggressively. He closed down the gap between him and Adesanya as he was aware of the champion’s striking capabilities. Although Adesanya used ferocious leg kicks, Vettori continued pushing forward as he used some combinations.
Adesanya came into his elements as he used some head kicks to thwart Vettori from coming forward. The Nigerian’s maneuverability in switching to lightning-quick combos pushed Vettori backward.

If we describe Vettori’s performance, in short, it was either a takedown or striking. He was too linear in his approach, and Adesanya used this to his advantage.
After receiving some advice from his coach, Vettori attempted a takedown and was successful. He somehow slithered to the back of Adesanya and was ready to apply a rear-naked choke.

But Adesanya, befitting a skillful fighter, turned the position around and the fight moved back to the feet. The champ then assaulted Vettori with those kicks to the lower half of Vettori and punches to his head.
With only a stoppage win possible for Vettori, he came hard in the fifth round but again was thwarted by the astuteness of Adesanya. The champ again picked him apart with his leg kicks. The only positive for Vettori was, he survived the stoppage till the end.
Although ‘The Italian Dream’ has hit the stripes in the gym, it will be a while before his return to the title picture.
