Ovince Saint Preux missed weight for his co-main event bout against Jamahal Hill on the Jack Hermansson vs Marvin Vettori card. This will be OSP’s 3rd fight of the year and the first in which he missed weight. OSP has long spoken about the struggles of making 205 pounds and even had a Heavyweight bout this year.

However, his heavyweight effort against Ben Rothwell was lackluster and brought him back to Light Heavyweight. He won his last fight against Alonzo Menifield, but many had questions about his viability against the undefeated Jamahal Hill.

Hill has had only 6 fights in the UFC, and OSP is easily his biggest test. However, OSP came into this bout 2 pounds over the Light Heavyweight limit at 207.5 pounds.

This was the first time in his career that OSP missed weight, and he has now clarified as to why he couldn’t complete the cut.

“Everything was going good, it’s just that my coach last minute told me, ‘We are going to stop right here, you’re not looking too good.’ I wasn’t bad, but he just told us that we’re going to chalk it up right here. So just went and ended it there.”

OSP will forfeit 20% of his purse to Hill. This miss has brought up serious reservations as to whether OSP can still make it in this division.

Ovince Saint Preux: Time to retire or move weight classes?

OSP challenged Jon Jones for the LHW title a few years ago, so he isn’t just a scrub off the streets. However, he lacks the shine he once had. He is taking fights outside the rankings and hoping to keep his career alive. His heavyweight experiment failed after he couldn’t adjust to the power of people in that weight class.

OSP now has 2 choices ahead of him. Either he sticks out in the LHW division or he moves on to Heavyweight. But if Heavyweight is too hard for him, he needs to figure out a way he can realistically compete at LHW.

Jamahal Hill is the favorite heading into this fight anyway, so most people have already started looking past OSP. Hopefully, he puts in a good performance and shows he is still a threat in this division.
