Tony Ferguson has always been in and around the title picture at lightweight. However, ‘El Cucuy’ was never able to realize his dream of becoming the undisputed lightweight champion in the UFC. The closest Ferguson has come was when he beat Kevin Lee at UFC 216 to become the interim champion.

Ferguson was scheduled to fight for the lightweight belt earlier this year against Khabib Nurmagomedov; however, the pandemic meant that the Russian could not cross borders. The fight between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has been canceled five times now and is easily the fight that fight fans wanted to see the most but never materialized. ‘The Eagle’s’ retirement dashed any hopes that the UFC would book the fight for a sixth time.

Will we get to see Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov scheduled for the seventh time?

In a recent interview with Morning Kombat, Brian Campbell asked Tony Ferguson if he thinks Khabib Nurmagomedov will fight again. Ferguson replied, “I could give two f**ks, I wanna be real. I don’t care anymore. With that being said, like I said in other interviews there wasn’t enough juice in the squeeze for my family. All this worrying about title shots and wet dreams about the title belt, and all these other things that the UFC dangles in front of me or other fighters I used to let that affect me.”

He continued, “I’m no longer letting the UFC control my attitude and my financials for anything anymore. I’ve taken complete advantage over my stuff. I’ve increased my value the point where I know it… I know that I have an obligation as a professional athlete to go out there and demonstrate exactly what the f**k I know how to do. Which is go out there and get that victory.”

Gaethje snapped Tony Ferguson’s 12-fight win streak earlier this year. Since his loss ‘El Cucuy’ has been desperate to get back to winning ways.
