Robert Whittaker Vs Israel Adesanya Makes Sense Says Dana White

Robert Whittaker vs Jared Cannonier was the co-main event at UFC 254. On any other card, this fight would have dominated headlines. However, the fight between Justin and Khabib was so huge in all aspects that it dimmed the light on every other fight on the card. 

The fight between Jared Cannonier and Robert Whittaker has massive implications on the title picture at middleweight. ‘Izzy’ had made it very clear that if ‘The Killa Gorilla’ got past Whittaker, he would like to defend his title against him next. However, ‘The Reaper’ proved why he is still one of the best middleweights in the division with a clinical victory tonight.

In the post-fight press conference, John Morgan asked Dana White what he thought of a potential rematch between Adesanya and Whittaker. Dana White replied, “No, it’s very appealing to me. It’s the fight that makes sense right now. Like I said, Adesanya has a lot of options but, the fight that makes the most sense right now is Whittaker.”

White continued,  “I thought Cannonier was going to be a much tougher challenge for him. He looked good tonight so Adesanya fight makes sense.”

Following his loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243, ‘The Reaper’ took some time off before returning to the octagon. He came back as a man reinvigorated. In his last fight against Darren Till he looked incredibly sharp and was able to secure a unanimous decision win. 

Whittaker had fought only once in 2018 and 2019, However, The Australian fighter has two impressive wins to his name against top contenders in the middleweight division.

Jared Cannonier was on a tear in the 185-pound division. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ had won three on the trot and looked like an extremely dangerous fight for the former champion. However, despite being rocked early on, ‘The Reaper’ proved his championship mettle and rallied to secure the win. In doing so, he has put himself in prime position to avenge his loss to ‘The Last Stylebender’.
