MS Dhoni has kept everyone guessing over his International career as the former captain has not yet called it quits. He has taken an indefinite break from cricket and didn’t play a single game ever since India lost to New Zealand in the ICC World Cup earlier this year. Along with his international career, questions are also doing rounds over his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a tournament he has been playing since its beginning in 2008 without a break.

MS Dhoni has successfully led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the IPL title thrice – 2010, 2011 and 2018. However, one leading newspaper has reported that he has plans to play in the IPL for two more seasons — 2020 and 2021. Moreover, a leading news organization has come out with a story with the headline on Wednesday: ‘MS Dhoni Wants To Leave CSK? Former Captain Could Join Rival Team In IPL 2021’ to add fuel to the speculation on his stint in IPL.

MS Dhoni-led CSK became the runners-up in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019, although in 2016 and 2017, CSK did not take part in the IPL because of a ban. Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiants in those two editions. The report further added that Dhoni has asked the CSK to release him using the ‘Right to Match’ option and buy him back at a lower price as well.

However, CSK franchise were not too happy to see the article and in response to this they took to Twitter and replied: “No, the nation knows that!”

However, MS Dhoni has missed the West Indies series and the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh, although he was seen practising with the Jharkhand team a couple of days back. On the other hand, the news came that former Indian captain, MS Dhoni is possibly returning to international cricket in March next year, before the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has asked the permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow seven of the top Indian cricketers to be part of the Asia XI team, which will play two T20Is against the Rest of the World. However, if BCCI gives permission to BCB’s request and also the stalwart agrees to be part of the games, it could end the suspense over his future as well.
