Munich Open: Andy Murray reaches first Clay Court Final

Britain’s number 1 Tennis player Andy Murray reached his first clay court final at the Munich Open earlier today. Andy Murray won two matches within a matter of hours to achieve this feat.

Incidentally, the Munich Open is Murray’s first tournament after getting married.

Following the rain on Friday, the top seed saw off Lukas Rosol 4-6 6-3 6-2 and returned less than three hours later to beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 6-4.

The match between Murray and Rosol had some fireworks when they exchanged angry words after bumping into each other at a change over, with Murray later describing it as “just silly”. It’s reported that Murray told Rosol across the court: “No-one likes you on the tour, everyone hates you.”

Andy Murray will take on German fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final.

Before this match, Murray had won any of his semifinals at clay. He lost four of them against the king of clay Rafael Nadal, and one against World Number 1, Novak Djokovic.

Murray, who’s travelling with his coach Jonas Bjorkman, took control of both the matches well to coast to victory. He broke Rosol 5 times enroute to victory and then came down from 3-0 in the first set in the match against Bautista Agut.

Kohlschreiber, Murray’s opponent in the final, needed one hour and 37 minutes to see off Austrian qualifier Gerald Melzer 2-6 6-1 6-4 in the second singles semi-final.
