Gone are those days when LeBron James and Stephen Curry used to dominate the playoffs. They still do individually, however, the quality of the young players in the league is incredible. New-age players like Luka Doncic and Trae Young have taken the league by storm.

The incredible performances being put up are commendable. Trae Young is leading the charge of the Hawks to win an NBA title. Whereas Doncic and the Mavericks fell to the Clippers in what was an incredible series. Despite that, Luka has won a lot of plaudits for his scintillating performances on the court.

The quality in his play is quite staggering for a player so young. However, the former NBA Rookie of the Year has drawn criticism from pundits, for ball-hogging.

Luka Doncic is a generational talent

Ever since the Dallas Mavericks drafted him back in 2018, Doncic has automatically become their franchise player. The performances showcased on the court are quite outstanding for a guy who is just 22 years old. But after his exit from the playoffs, questions are being asked about him not being a team player. ESPN analyst Doris Burke mentioned her remarks on this matter in a recent interview.

“I love watching him play, he’s an MVP candidate every year, and think about how young he is. Yes, he is brilliant, yes he can carry a team to the brink of a win in big moments but does he have the ball too much in him. I think he is brilliant but one man is never enough to win an NBA championship. I think he is a brilliant basketball player,” said Doris.

Doris Burke spoke about how she admired Luka for his skill set. On the other hand, she gave her remarks on how Luka kept hold of the ball many a time. There were questions about whether coach Rick Carlisle coached his team this way although none can deny the influence of Luka on the court.

Dallas Mavericks needs to fill the jigsaw puzzle

Despite Kristaps Porzingis’ arrival being greeted with positivity, there are few defensive specimens in the team. The Dallas defense was out of ideas during their last two games against the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard couldn’t be stopped as the team bowed out in game 7 after having a 3-2 lead. But Doncic’s performances were nothing short of sensational.

In the seven games he played, he averaged 35.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 9.5 assists, in addition to 1.2 steals per game in the series. Those are Jordan-esque numbers.

The potential of this kid is frightening as Carlisle needs to bring in players to support him.

The Dallas Mavericks will hope to return with a bang next season as Doncic will be their key man. This is an important offseason for the franchise while finding excellent players to fill out their team. If they do that, Luka Doncic and the Mavericks will be the team to beat come next season.
