Joe Gibbs Racing’s 2022 season was probably the most dramatic one they’ve had in recent years. The team went through a lot of ups and downs, which ultimately culminated in a tragedy no one would have imagined. But all that is in the past, and the team is ready to look ahead.

Joe Gibbs Racing ended the last year with one trophy in hand—the Xfinity Series. Ty Gibbs, the talent extraordinaire, grabbed the championship convincingly despite being pitted against much older and more experienced drivers. But disappointingly, this was the only good thing to happen to them about their season.

In the Cup Series, the team couldn’t manage good results. They narrowly missed getting a spot in the final 4 in massively dramatic fashion. It was Ross Chastain’s incredulous wall-ride move in Martinsville that pushed Denny Hamlin to 5th place and out of contention for the final spot.

They also ended up “divorcing” their most successful driver, Kyle Busch. It wasn’t an amicable affair, with Busch slamming the team in public: “Apparently they’ve got other irons in the fire, maybe other sponsors for other drivers and that’s the road they’re going down.”

But the heaviest blow came in the end when the untimely and unexpected death of Coy Gibbs was reported. While reasons for his death haven’t been disclosed, it came right after Ty had won the Xfinity Series. Sadly, the boy couldn’t be near his father and was still in Phoenix when the news came.

Kyle Busch’s biggest identifier was the M&M livery—his 15-year sponsorship by the company led to his much-loved nickname, The Candyman. But with neither Busch nor M&M any longer with the team, they seem to have moved on.

JGR posted pictures of their new livery featuring BassProShops, and fans absolutely loved the adventurous paint scheme.
