Naomi Osaka – “At Every Grand Slam There is Always Some Sort of Drama”

World Number one, Naomi Osaka was asked about the eye-catching opening round match at US Open 2019, which is between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. She grew up watching the two eminent ladies of tennis who have met each other 21 times in their careers.

“Of course I’m going to watch it. I know you all are going to watch it,” she said while addressing the American press. “I think everyone in New York is going to watch it.”

“I’m not that surprised that happened, because at every Grand Slam there is always some sort of drama. You know what I mean? Like, there will be a first-round where it’s like, Oh, my God.”

Serena and Maria have shared the stage on big platforms of tennis. On the list of tennis rivalries, the duo occupies a spot and prior to this, they had never met before the pre-quarterfinal stage of a tournament.

Until today, Sharapova could just pull off two victories which came in the year 2004. They were two consecutive wins for the Russian against Serena, the first one being at Wimbledon and the next at WTA Championships.

Recently, Naomi Osaka retired from her quarterfinal match against the American, Sofia Kenin. She dressed up her knee during the course of the match and post that she struggled to move on the court. Despite, her complications the Japanese sensation is all prepared for her title defense at Flushing. She called her to be a ‘fast healer’ and is optimistic about her run in New York City.   

Presently her stay on the WTA Tour post her Australian Open eminence has been topsy-turvy. Since Melbourne, Osaka is yet to claim four consecutive wins on the circuit. Only in Madrid, she could win three matches in a row and in the rest of the tournaments she was trounced after winning two matches or even less than that.
