Naomi Osaka Turns Designer For New York Fashion Week

Japanese tennis sensation Naomi Osaka has turned designer for the iconic New York fashion week. With this, Osaka fulfilled a childhood dream.

The fashion week is running from February 3 till February 12. New York Fashion Week is one of the most prominent events on the fashion calendar.

Why Does This Hold Significance For Naomi Osaka?

Osaka had a penchant for designing for a long time. That’s why this opportunity meant a lot for her. This is what she conveyed through her Instagram post –

“Used to sketch designs in the back of the car during long car rides to tennis tournaments with my big sis to pass the time. Pretty surreal to now say that a collection I drew with my sister walked in New York Fashion Week … thank you, everyone”.

Osaka’s designs were featured on Japanese designer Hanako Maeda’s runway. Hanako was born in Tokyo but lives in New York. She launched her own fashion line in 2012. Maeda had posted a teaser video through her Instagram account of her association with Osaka.

Naomi helped create some of the looks on ADEAM’s runway along with her elder sister Mari. The Asian star had described her style as “a bit too crazy for America, but a bit too timid for Japan.”

Osaka will be joining one of the biggest stars in women’s tennis in the week. Yes, we are talking about Serena Williams who had made her debut at the New York Fashion Week last year. Serena will be returning to the runway on Wednesday for her second S by Serena fashion show.
