What Is NASCAR Great Jimmie Johnson’s Full Schedule for the 2021 IndyCar Series Season?

NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson begins his IndyCar Series 2021 campaign on Sunday, which is his first-ever race in the iconic series. Johnson will take to the race track at Barber Motorsports Park in the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama in his first appearance for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Johnson has signed up to drive 13 IndyCar races this season, all on the street and road courses. He made it clear that the oval races are not part of his plans in 2021, which rules out his participation in the historic Indy 500 race.

How does the 2021 schedule look like for Jimmie Johnson?

April 25, Sunday – After the Alabama season opener, Johnson will run the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. This race is next Sunday and the circuit comprises the streets of Downtown St. Petersburg.

May 15, Saturday – Johnson then has a bit of a rest, before taking on the road course at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the GMR Grand Prix.

June 12-13, Saturday and Sunday – As mentioned, Johnson will not participate in the Indy500 on May 30th. So after a rather long break, Johnson will return for a ‘double-header weekend’ in Detroit for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Races 1 and 2. Both races will take place on Detroit’s Belle Isle.

June 20, Sunday – The next assignment comes at the famed Road America for the REV Group Grand Prix. The road course circuit, located between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Wisconsin, will also host Johnson’s former NASCAR competitors this season.

July 4, Sunday – The field then moves to Mid-Ohio for another road course race – the Honda Indy 200.

July 11, Sunday – Downtown Toronto then hosts the IndyCar drivers for the Honda Indy Toronto street course race.

August 8, Sunday – One of the most anticipated races this season is the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix. Nashville, Tennessee will host Johnson and the rest of the field on the downtown street course.

August 14, Saturday – Johnson will then return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course for another race.

September 12, Sunday – The 45-year-old IndyCar rookie then skips an oval race. He will make his return for the Grand Prix of Portland, which is a road course race.

September 19, Sunday – Johnson’s next assignment is the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterrey. This road course race is at the iconic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

September 26, Sunday – The 7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will then close out his season with the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. This race tackles the Long Beach street circuit.

Johnson’s ‘childhood dream’ is finally about to be fulfilled. Taking on such a huge challenge at this stage says a lot about Johnson’s hunger to win more. His NASCAR fans will also closely follow these races as Johnson takes on this new challenge.
