WATCH: Jeff Gordon & Lakers Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar React After Being Named Grand Marshals for the LA Coliseum Clash

NASCAR is making sure it ticks all the boxes for the upcoming Busch Clash at the Coliseum. The exhibition race that will kick off the 2022 season has a lot going for it. Along with taking place in a historical venue such as the LA Coliseum, the event will also feature a half-time show and big names for entertainment. And on top of it all, the Clash has added two huge American icons in Jeff Gordon and one of the NBA’s all-time greats.

The NASCAR legend was recently announced as the Grand Marshal for the much-anticipated race.

Gordon, a four-time NASCAR champion, expressed his excitement in a video posted by Hendrick Motorsports – “Wow, am I excited for the 2022 Cup Season that’s about to get started?”

“What a way to kick it off than the event we’re about to have at the LA Coliseum, something we’ve never seen before,” Gordon said. “I think the fans will be blown away. I know I can’t wait to see what happens on track and all the action that pursues.”

“As somebody from California, I’m truly honored to be a Grand Marshal and join this fantastic group of athletes as grand marshals for this event. And introduce them and so many others to the world of NASCAR.”

“Let’s get it started.”

Apart from Gordon, NASCAR has added arguably the greatest player in NBA history – Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend and NBA’s all-time leading scorer will join the NASCAR legend as one of the grand marshals.

The former Hendrick driver was recently announced as a Vice Chairman in his former team, something he’s “enjoying.”

In a recent interview, Gordon described his new role as “challenging” and as, “a lot going on.” “It’s a lot of exciting things that are happening. I’m enjoying being involved in so many different areas and still get to be involved in racing,” Gordon said.

It will be interesting to see how Jeff Gordon fares in his second innings in NASCAR. He became one of the all-time greats, a legend when behind the wheel.
