With a just about a few hours to go, the NASCAR Cup Series drivers’ nerves will be at its peak, as they take to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Among the predicted favorites for the race at the 1.5 mile-long speedway is Kyle Larson?

The 28-year-old has a special expertise at short and dirt tracks as well. But he has shown his racecraft in the Cup Series too, extracting vital performance in the right moments.

Larson has already expressed that he feels a race victory is quite close this season. So will his past record and the desire to clinch a first for new team Hendrick Motorsports see him deliver this weekend?

Kyle Larson has a great record in Las Vegas

Some facts on the team’s website read, “In nine previous Cup starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson has three top-five finishes and six top-10s, including a ninth-place finish in this event last year. He posted runner-up results at the Nevada venue in 2017 and 2018.”

But at the same time, Larson is also curiously winless in 71 Cup Series starts at 1.5 mile-tracks. The No.5 has achieved nine runner-up finishes, but has never driven his car into Victory Lane.

So while history suggests that a good finish is on the cards this Sunday, a race win has remained out of reckoning. But there is good reason to believe that Larson might just be that bit closer to landing his first Cup win in 2021.

For starters, Larson seems to have easily acclimatized to the culture at a premier team like Hendrick Motorsports. He looks incredibly comfortable with his Chevrolet Camaro, which has seen him gain important results in the first three rounds.

Furthermore, the track perfectly suits Larson’s aggressive but tactful driving style. His experience securing stage wins could also come in handy, as he bids to stay in the lead during the latter phase of the race.
