This year, NASCAR is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Over the last three-quarters of a century, NASCAR, as a sport has grown immensely in several aspects. But in the last few years, this growth has accelerated even further—and if Jeff Gordon is to be believed, the 2023 season could be a glimpse into the future of the sport.

In 2023, NASCAR is taking stock car racing into some familiar as well as some unfamiliar territories. Not only is there going to be a repeat of the Clash at the LA Coliseum, but there’s also going to be a street race at the center of one of the country’s biggest cities.

Then there’s the All-Star race on a legendary racetrack.

All of this is perhaps why Gordon is so excited about the future of the sport.

Jeff Gordon predicts NASCAR in London or Brazil

Speaking in a recent interview on Rubbin Is Racing, Gordon opened up on the possible “snapshot” fans and everyone would be able to see of the future of the sport during the 2023 season.

Gordon described, “I think we’re gonna see a snapshot this year of what’s possible and what the future holds for NASCAR. The Clash, if you can put on an event in a stadium like that, or in an arena, what other places could we go?

“Could you go to London to Wembley? Could you go to Brazil or go to Middle East? Who knows where you can go with that? And put on a heck of a show and bring people that maybe never seen a NASCAR race together,” he said. “I think it’d be very entertaining. Then you got the street course in Chicago.

“If you can go race on the street course in the middle of a metropolitan city, who knows what’s next? Where could you take that? I think it’s really exciting,” the Hendrick Motorsports legend added.

Having expressed his excitement for the Clash and the Street Course race and the doors they could potentially open for NASCAR in the future, Jeff Gordon took a moment to acknowledge the comeback of the North Wilkesboro Speedway.

The legendary racetrack hadn’t seen any NASCAR action, or any racing action for decades. But last year, it went through a long restoration process because of Dale Earnhardt Jr’s efforts, all of which ended up in the track landing the All-Star race in 2023.

“I also love the throwback at North Wilkesboro, a track we hadn’t been to for thirty years, so that’s super cool to me. We’re gonna get that opportunity to see this track that really helped build NASCAR and a county, the history of NASCAR almost built on and go back there,” Gordon said.

“So you have the new and the old.”
