Dale Earnhardt Jr finally answered the mystery behind the famous red tire used by him at Daytona 500 back in 2004. During the Dirty Mo Media podcast, a fan sent a question to Dale about the tire mystery.

Responding to the fan’s question, Dale says, “It came from Jeremy Mayfield’s team. It was absolutely from Ray Evernham’s Dodge’s. It was one of those cars I don’t know if that yeah if it was Mayfield’s I believe. The handing at the race at that time with that track was really really important. Just as important as the speed of your car. “

He goes on to talk about how Goodyear used to mention spring rates at the side of the tire walls. They used to try to manage the spring rates of the tires so that all the sets were pretty much the same. He said that out of the 10 sets provided 8 sets would be really good whereas some of the sets were not worth it to be used.

He went on to say, “So when someone would fall out of the race you go up to the pit road and go hey man you got a left rear with a 1500 spring rate sidewall? Can we have it we’ll buy it? We’ll take it and put it with our ninth set and we got nine good sets.”

Dale won his first Daytona 500 in that race back in 2004 and since then, conspiracy theorists have been on about the tire and how it could have been rigged.

After the recent announcement surrounding the first NASCAR street race to be held in downtown Chicago. Dale Earnhardt Jr reacted via a Twitter post.

Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr recently took to Twitter. This was after the confirmation of the Chicago Street race event starting next year.

Dale Tweeted, “This is awesome news. A new challenge to see the best stock car drivers in the world tackle. A great market. Pretty cool how iRacing was used to test the idea as well. Can’t wait to broadcast the first race there!”
