Dale Earnhardt Jr Reveals One Quality of His Father Which He Regrets Not Picking Up

NASCAR drivers’ primary responsibility is racing, but they also have to find a balance between handling media duties, sponsorship obligation and so much more. Recently, during the season file of his podcast with Brian France, former NASCAR driver and Hall of Fame inductee Dale Earnhardt Jr. remembered and admired his father, Dale Earnhardt Senior’s ability to balance multiple things at once.

Junior said, “I know what you mean by that man. You know, I look at my dad the same way he was. I don’t know how he was able to be so clever. In every instance, you know, and so wise to be able to understand, so many things happen at once. You know, I can’t succeed in one space or focus on one thing at a time, you know, where he could juggle so many things he could.“

The star declared his acceptance that he could only wish to have been like his own father. The ability of his father to multitask between various activities whilst also focusing on the racing aspect of things is what Dale hoped to imbibe.

How was the relationship between Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his dad?

Junior only grew closer to his father after he declared his aspirations to race and started visiting the track more often. He recalls his first genuine conversation with his dad only happened when he was old enough to race.

Junior recalls that he sulked and did not work on his driving. That is when his father became furious with him. After a while, Earnhardt Sr. realized the best way to have a conversation with his son would be to showcase some humility.

Later on in life, Junior mentioned, “It was the greatest conversation we ever had.”

Over time, the pair drew closer and closer to each other. In his early days, he didn’t spend quality time with his dad. However, by the end, the pair had a beautiful father-son relationship. Junior has always cherished the time he had with his father while he was still around. Even after Earnhardt Sr. was no more, he continued to carry the Earnhardt baton forward in his racing career.
