“Decision-Making Will Probably be a Little More Questionable” – Chase Elliott Reveals Why This Weekend’s Atlanta Race Will be Different

Ahead of the NASCAR Cup race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott previewed the event. The #9 Hendrick Motorsports driver spoke about what to expect, and will the results be the same as last time? Interestingly, the 2020 Cup Series champion admitted that things could be different.

He said, “To learn more about the data and all those technical things that are going on. I think all the cars are just going to drive better. Typically, when that happens, the aggression level will increase. People are going to be more out to put themselves in compromising situations.”

“Our first race, we were short on cars and we were having some tire failures. A lot of people were just trying to survive, whereas this time, my gut feeling is everyone will be a little more comfortable. So decision-making will probably be a little more questionable.”

What else did Chase Elliott say about the upcoming Atlanta race?

According to him, the race will most likely play out as it did back in March. However, he warned that the teams have been able to get a better understanding of the car compared to back then. Since that race on March 20th, the drivers have undergone several tests, from NASCAR, organizational tests, or OEM tests.

Speaking about his own chances, Chase Elliott said that he simply wanted to focus on finishing the race. He confessed that running 500 miles at the Atlanta Motor Speedway was one of the longest races he had ever raced in.

In a marathon race like that, it pays well to be on the lead lap and not sustain any damage. For his own sake, Elliott prefers to get to the end of the race before thinking about trying to win. In the end, he has to try and make the best decision possible in whichever circumstance he is in.
