While Denny Hamlin may not be one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR today, you can’t help but agree that he has a good sense of humor. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver doesn’t shy away from making the occasional taunt or joke at his colleagues and things in and out of the sport.

This part of Hamlin’s personality sometimes gets him in trouble with fans (and recently with NASCAR), but mostly, everyone has a good laugh.

The most recent example of this was the #11 driver taking a subtle jibe at his own jackman, Derrell Edwards, who agreed to extend his contract with JGR until 2027.

Denny Hamlin has put his team’s growth on halt until dinosaurs begin to eat differently

It’s no secret that Denny Hamlin has pretty ambitious plans for his team, 23XI Racing. The co-owner has been pretty vocal about what his vision is for the young team, and that vocalness has also translated into actions from Hamlin.

But the way things are with NASCAR as a sport right now, Hamlin has decided to put his plans for growth on hold.

He revealed that he had a meeting with Jim France in which he made his message clear. “We need to stop talking about cutting,” he said. To Hamlin, cutting isn’t equal to growth, and the sport can only grow if everyone works together collectively, something for which the current business model of the sport has to change.

“We at 23XI have big plans. But those plans are on hold until we see change,” Denny Hamlin continued. “It’s very hard to convince dinosaurs they must eat differently.”

“I want change. If we’re going to appeal to a new audience because our (current) audience is aging or has aged, you’ve got to get with the times.”
