After the NASCAR Cup race at the Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson locked his place in the Championship 4. Meanwhile, poor old Denny Hamlin could only muster a disappointing 11th. Following the race, Hamlin’s crew chief Chris Gabehart spoke about how this race affects Hamlin’s chances, especially when comparing him to Kyle Larson and his latest win.

“Quote it and write it down,” Gabehart said.

“It is a huge advantage. They are the best race team of the year, statistically. We are a step behind them. Kyle Larson is the most talented race car driver I have ever been on this planet to see. That’s a fact. Look at what he is doing across any type of discipline on any given week. He’s with a fantastic race team. Daniels is doing a great job. He’s prepared his guys for it. Yeah, it’s an advantage. We’ve experienced a version of that the last couple of rounds. They’ve got it now.”

Gabehart insisted that JGR will continue to fight till the end. However he did acknowledge that the Hendrick Motorsports team now has an advantage. Despite this, the crew chief plans to motivate his team to claw their way back. According to him, HMS will be under pressure to maintain that advantage.

However, Joe Gibbs Racing has to still consider that HMS has been the most successful team this season. Especially with Kyle Larson notching up his eighth victory of the year. It is also worth mentioning that the organization could try and get defending champion Chase Elliott in the championship race.

To achieve this, Hendrick Motorsports and Larson could play the team game. Luckily, they still have two races to try and get the #9 driver in. Considering that Elliott is just eight points adrift of Kyle Busch, he needs to outscore the JGR driver.
