Chase Elliott has been the center of attention over the last week after having to sit out of races following a brutal injury. The 2020 Cup Series champ suffered a fracture in his left tibia following a snowboarding accident, which ruled him out of the car for at least six weeks. The massive setback for Hendrick Motorsports triggered a debate if drivers should be allowed to engage in dangerous sports off the track that could possibly result in injuries. Recently, 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button offered his thought on the controversy while comparing Chase Elliott’s situation with his own F1 endeavors.

Jenson Button recently made an appearance on NASCAR Race Hub, where he announced the news about his NASCAR debut at the COTA this season. Moreover, Button also shared his opinion on Elliott’s controversial injury.

He believed that holding back drivers from doing activities to clear their heads could be “tough,” given their commendable dedication to the sport.

Button continued, “You know, so many races, they need to go off and relax. And you know, they also need to know if they go off and relax and they injure themselves. It’s gonna hurt you.”
