This weekend the NASCAR Cup race is at the Sonoma Raceway. In the buildup to the race weekend, an interesting statistic came to light. As it happens, the Hendrick Motorsports team is on the verge of achieving a massive milestone. This is because the organization has collectively led a grand total of 99,902 miles in the Cup arena. In other words, they are just 98 miles away from breaching the 100,000-mile barrier.

Of course, no one can guarantee that Hendrick Motorsports will lead all 98 laps. Especially with Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske, 23XI Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing and Trackhouse Racing, all threatening. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 is a 218.9 mile race, so it is not necessary for Hendrick to lead all the laps.

Kyle Larson, William Byron, Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott have to ensure that at least one of them is leading the race. As long as they work in tandem, there is a chance that HMS will reach the milestone.

Can Hendrick Motorsports reach the milestone at Sonoma?

As mentioned before, there really is no guarantee that it will happen this weekend. In the worst-case scenario, the outfit will not hit the 100,000 mark this weekend. On the bright side, it will bring the team closer to the mark, and they will eventually cross it. If they cannot achieve it at Sonoma, there are plenty of races left in the season.

One thing is for sure, Hendrick Motorsports is reaching the 100,000-mile mark this year, one way or another. Whether it is at Sonoma this weekend, or next weekend at Nashville, that milestone is definitely going down.

It is all a matter of when, rather than if it will be reached. Admittedly, one also has to wonder which of the four Hendrick Motorsports drivers will be the one to breach it. Although all four will be trying to contribute, the honor can only go to one person.
