“I’m a Lot More Wanted in the Sport” – Chase Briscoe on Getting into the NASCAR Cup Series

Chase Briscoe is currently focusing on the NASCAR Xfinity playoffs. At the same time, he has one eye on the 2021 season and his future in NASCAR. It is worth noting that Briscoe was in the exact same position last year as well. However, he believes that this year’s scenario will be different.

Briscoe said, “Last year, I had only won one race. I’m not that pretty girl at the dance that everybody wants. Now that I’ve won seven races, I’m a lot more wanted in the sport.”

Briscoe also believes that he can take a few elements from last year and apply them to this year. He insisted that even though both situations are different, the experience will help him. In other words, the pressure of having to perform well will support his case.

What lies in the future for Chase Briscoe?

According to Stewart-Haas Racing’s Greg Zipadelli, Chase Briscoe is in fine form. Zipadelli admitted that Briscoe could be in the frame for the Cup Series next year, given his seven wins. However, he expects Briscoe to continue in the Xfinity series for 2021. According to his estimate, Briscoe could be ready for a move by 2022.

“I don’t think it would hurt him to run another year of Xfinity. I don’t know, kind of dependent on how the schedules and what the races are if it helps him a bunch or not,” Zipadelli said.

So far, the Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team has only confirmed Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola. The #14 and #41 seats are still up in the air for the moment. In other words, Clint Bowyer and Cole Custer are yet to commit to their contracts. However, Custer might stay as 2020 was his rookie season.

Even if an SHR seat is not on the cards, there are plenty of other seats that are ripe for the taking. At least 15 slots are open on the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series grid. On the NASCAR Xfinity front, Briscoe has yet to commit to his own contract as he prays for a Cup Series nod.
