Jimmie Johnson is all set to join the IndyCar grid in 2021 with the Chip Ganassi Racing team. However, he still has to navigate through sponsorship specifics before he can seal the deal.

In light of this, his potential teammate Scott Dixon spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. He said, “From my standpoint, I guess its 50-50. I don’t know the ins and outs, I know how much effort a lot of people are putting into it and the probability is pretty good.”

Dixon believes that the deal will happen fairly quickly, and quite possibly within a couple of weeks. However, he hopes that the deal pulls through for Jimmie Johnson.

Dixon confessed that the 44-year-old may not be used to stepping out of his comfort zone. However, he knows that the team will not give up easily, so there is a high probability of Johnson joining the CGR team.

How will the situation pan out for Jimmie Johnson?

So far, IndyCar’s 2021 schedule is still up in the air, but Johnson insisted that his target is 15 races in the season. It is also worth noting that this is a chance for a couple of NASCAR gigs, as CGR fields two cars in the Cup Series.

In all honesty, it would be rare to see two top drivers in recent history, as teammates. Jimmie Johnson has a record seven NASCAR Cup victories.

Meanwhile, Dixon has amassed 50 career IndyCar race victories, placing him third in the all-time list behind A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti.

“To pair Jimmie with the likes of Scott Dixon is quite an opportunity. They are truly in rarified air, and I think everyone knows by now that I like winners,” Chip Ganassi said.

“The goal right now is to run Jimmie in an Indycar for at least the next couple of seasons. We want to show people we’re serious about the program. We felt it was important to get the partnership done and start putting the financial building blocks in place to make this a reality.”
