In 2020, Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott was a rising star and a hugely popular driver. So it didn’t come as a surprise that NASCAR wanted to bank on his popularity. So when the NASCAR Heat 5 game was released in July 2020, there was a pleasant surprise waiting for the #9 driver. As it happened, they included him on the cover of the video game, something that flattered Elliott.

Elliott told the Brilliantly Dumb Show podcast, “I’ve never been on the cover of a video game before. I play a lot of video games and have for a long time. Played a lot of NASCAR games over the years, and stuff. It’s a cool honor to have. Hopefully, everybody enjoys the game. Just appreciate those folks for allowing me to be a part of that.”

All in all, 2020 was a fantastic year for the Hendrick Motorsports star. He snatched five wins during the season and went on to clinch his maiden Cup Series championship. Those wins came at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Daytona Road Course, and the Charlotte Roval. Additionally, he snagged back-to-back wins at the Martinsville Speedway and at the Phoenix Raceway. The Phoenix win was enough to see him seal his maiden Cup Series title.

Since then, Elliott has gone on to finish fourth in the championship in the 2021 and 2022 Cup campaigns. This year, the #9 driver will be trying again and hoping to grab a second Cup title. However, he will be acutely aware that drivers like Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, and his own teammate Kyle Larson will be threats. Furthermore, people like Joey Logano proved that we should not underestimate him.

After all, he came from almost nowhere to sneak into Championship 4 and clinched the 2022 Cup Series crown. So the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season is his chance for redemption. However, the #9 driver will be sure to watch his back and keep a wary eye on his rivals.
