Recently, Denny Hamlin made an appearance on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast. Over there, he talked about his future in NASCAR and at Joe Gibbs Racing. At the age of 41, he is no spring chicken, though he is registering wins and keeping himself in the championship fight. At the moment, he has one win under his belt this season, which was enough to see him enter the Playoffs.

Speaking to Dale Jr, Hamlin said, “I’ve said that many times. I don’t consider myself a top 100 talent in our sport. But I’ve worked really really hard at my craft, and that’s what’s carried me. Between that and having one of the best teams in the garage every week.”

“That’s why I don’t want to get in a worse car. It’s going to expose me in a big way so I’d rather just keep things as they are. When that’s done, I’ll be done.”

Of course, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver knows that many of his rivals will not make things easy for him. Hamlin has come second best on a couple of occasions. So he will be desperate to get the monkey off his back. At least he will be happy that he is in the Playoffs. This is because it gives him a better shot at the 2022 Cup title.
