It has been nearly 38 years since the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway was last on the NASCAR calendar. Now, reports have emerged that the authorities are in talks to see the speedway back on the Cup calendar at least by 2023. Recently at the 2021 NASCAR Awards in Nashville, there were several interviews on the red carpet. One of the interviewees was Hendrick Motorsports driver, Chase Elliott.

Speaking about the track’s return, he said, “To me, the Fairgrounds is tied to our history. It’s tied to my history, so its kind of special to me. I came up here and raced when I was young and getting started. With the way the world works now, and the way motorsports is. You’re never going to build a track that close to a city ever again. Certainly never going to build one close to a city like this, that’s blooming and growing. I just feel like it’s the literal perfect storm for the best venue in the country, and its sitting right here.”

He cited the example of the SRX series and the energy that it injected there. Similarly, if there was a NASCAR race at the venue, it would be extremely special. Of course, he acknowledged that he and his contemporaries have to respect the people there. However, Elliott is confident that there is a way to execute a race and make it so that everyone is happy.
