Sure, we know Kevin Harvick is one of the all-time greats, that’s just general knowledge. He recently entered the all-time top ten winners list in the history of the sport with his win in Michigan. But just how great is he?

Perhaps the answer to that question lies in what Kyle Petty had to say about him. In a recent episode of the Stacking Pennies podcast, Petty described how Harvick fits the bill of one of the great sayings of his father, the King, Richard Petty.

“The King always had a saying, Kevin (Harvick) is a good example, ‘There are drivers that can go fast, and then there’s drivers that can race. But there’s fewer drivers that can race than drivers that can go fast, but if you find one that can do both, you got you something,” he said.

“Kevin has a race craft and Kevin is at an age…older drivers, in a lot of ways, become pitchers. And what I mean by that is, Ty Gibbs gets into the sport, Corey LaJoie comes into the sport, they’re doing smoke,” he continued. “But Kevin, he’s got a change-up, he’s got a curve, he’s got a syncer.”

“He’s got the whole bag. He’s a pitcher, and he knows what to throw at you, he knows that. He knows the difference; he doesn’t just go all the time.”

Kevin Harvick was ecstatic after snapping his winless streak

In his post-race interview, Kevin Harvick, naturally, was pretty ecstatic and high on optimism after winning his first race in a long, long time. “Everybody who doubted us doesn’t know us,” he said.

“They, obviously, know we thrive in these types of situations. And a lot of things went our way today, which we haven’t had all year long — have things go our way and have things fall our way.”

The Closer described how towards the end, when they pitted, they didn’t go a lap down and took control of the race. Harvick also confessed that it was traffic that gave him the biggest headache during the race.

However, once he got a clear track, “that baby was hunting.”
