Martin Truex Jr or Bubba Wallace? Kyle Busch Refuses to Pick Sides in NASCAR Playoff Battle at Daytona

Despite Kurt Busch withdrawing his waiver request and effectively opening up another playoff spot, Martin Truex Jr. is still not there yet. If anything, Ryan Blaney had more of a helping hand from Busch. But Truex Jr. can have a helping hand from the other Busch, Kyle Busch.

Or will he? Because another Toyota driver, Bubba Wallace, is in contention for the playoff spot.

So should a scenario arise in which Kyle Busch has to choose between helping Truex Jr. and Wallace, what would he do?

Well, the answer is not quite what you’d expect.

“If I’m coming off a turn four the 23 (Bubba Wallace) and the 19 (Martin Truex Jr.) are side by side in front of me and I’m the next one, I’m lifting. So if I know I can’t win, I am out. Just give me the points,” Busch said in a pre-race interview.

How will Kyle Busch approach his own race in Daytona?

As for his own race, Kyle Busch said he is “still on the fence” about it, that he wants to go out there and race in the front of the pack for most of the day.

But on the flip side of it, the same pack can wipe him out if he’s a part of it.

“If I could guarantee myself a lead lap spot, stay on the lead lap by being a half a lap down the whole race, I would probably take that,” he described.

Busch also opened up on the fact that if a car gets two wide, then it becomes tough to make moves and go up from the middle. So in order to deal with that, one needs to put himself in a good spot before the final pit stop.
