If history teaches us something, then it’s that it should not be repeated. NASCAR fans are going gaga over Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson’s constant run-ins. However, this is not the first time that two Hendrick drivers had an on-track tussle. Prior to Larson and Chase Elliott, two other Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon, were involved in some on-track heated moments.

Johnson and Gordon got involved in their first tussle at the 2010 Samsung Mobile 500 race in Texas. The two of them made contact on lap 240 while racing for second place.

Back then, the left side of Johnson’s car was left damaged. The impact from Gordon’s vehicle also sent him to pit road. However, the driver still managed to finish the race in second place. On the other hand, Gordon finished 31st after being involved in a wreck with Tony Stewart

Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon’s reaction to the incident

As expected, the two drivers were not happy with the way things went down. During the race, a frustrated voice of Jeff Gordon was heard over the radio. Talking to his crew chief Steve Letarte, Gordon said, “Four-time is a little upset. He [expects] to be treated different than everybody else.”

Jimmie Johnson Reveals the Time He Lost His Cool With Ex-NASCAR Teammate Jeff Gordon: “I Overreacted”

Following the run-in, Jimmie Johnson seemed quite upset with his teammate. Talking about the incident in a post-race interview, he revealed, “He [Gordon] was just on my bumper, pushing me through the center of the turn—I was like, ‘Man, I really can’t go anywhere if you’re there, pushing me; if you’d just get off my a** and let me get control of my car, I can accelerate.'”

While conveying his disappointment, Johnson said that he would try and get to the bottom of this. He expressed his wish to sort things out and said that there was no point in playing it out in the press. However, like Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott, the duo did it again. Another run-in at the Talladega Superspeedway proved that things were not that ‘sorted’ between the two teammates.

During lap 182 of the Talladega race, Gordon made a hard charge under Johnson’s #48 Chevrolet, and Johnson moved to block in turn three. This forced Johnson’s Chevrolet onto the apron while stifling Gordon’s momentum.

Soon Gordon was involved in a multi-car accident. Finishing at the 22nd position, Gordon was furious about his teammate’s actions. As a result, he said“The 48 [Johnson] is testing my patience, I can tell you that. “It takes a lot to make me mad, and I’m p**sed right now. When a car is going that much faster…I don’t know what it is with me and him right now—but whatever.”
