Sunday’s All-Star Race at the Texas Motor Speedway ended in quite some controversy. The thing is, NASCAR called a caution at the very end, but the checkered flag was already waving while Ryan Blaney, the eventual race-winner, had taken his window net down.

What followed next were two more laps of overtime as the Team Penske driver somehow managed to put his net up and carry on with the rest of the race.

After the race though, NASCAR was showered with criticism since nobody had any idea of the caution when it was waved, neither the driver, nor his crew, nor the broadcasters, and certainly not the fans.

All of this prompted a senior NASCAR official, Scott Miller, to address the press and the questions regarding the incident.

According to journalist Bob Pockrass, “Scott Miller pretty much said they were a little trigger happy on the final caution and they felt Blaney had the window latched because he has both hands on the wheel and they saw the window net up.”

Ryan Blaney had quite a tough time putting back the window net in place

After the race, the race winner described the moment in which he had to put the window net up while trying to compete at the same time.

“I already took my window net down and everything. My left arm is worn out from trying to get that damn thing back up. I got it rigged up enough to where it halfway stayed,” he said.

The Team Penske driver said that he appreciates NASCAR for not calling them back to the pit road to fix the net, for letting them stay out on the track, and for letting him “get it clipped back again.”

“That rule was never kind of relayed to us,” Blaney added.
