“They Think I Got a Richard Petty Engine” – Denny Hamlin Demanded JGR Be Transparent After Pocono Bust

Following the race at Pocono, which saw the top two cars of Joe Gibbs Racing disqualified, Denny Hamlin, being one of them, shared the inside story of what took place later on with the team. He sat down with Dale Earnhardt Jr. during one of his podcasts to discuss the events.

During the podcast, Denny said, “Actually, on Monday, they had a little show and tell at our comp meeting at JGR. I can tell you this: there were 18 people at the comp meeting and I bet 15 people had no idea that was there. So they showed us, here’s what it was, here’s what it is, we’re talking about it, we’re going to show everyone exactly what it was.

I said I think a hundred percent you should be transparent about it because ultimately right now you got conspiracy theorists, I mean they think I got a Richard petty engine in this thing so.”

“But yeah, I think let’s do something that another team hasn’t done. Let’s be transparent about what you got busted with.”

“So I think that was the right call.”

He was further asked if he would have won without that tape to which Denny said they had three-tenths on the field and was stupid fast during qualifying. However, Hamlin was disqualified after initially winning the race due to a piece of clear tape stuck on the front fascia of the car.

Even after tensions boiling over at RCR, regarding Tyler’s surprise announcement to head to 23XI in 2024, Tyler Reddick bagged another win on Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin did not seem to have a great day himself.

During the first stage, Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain went wide into a corner. While Ross made it through, Denny was seen spinning off the track as he complained of a severely loose car.

Denny ended up finishing down in 14th position. Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick stormed to victory lane after running through a heavy battle with the infamous Ross Chastain. Ross himself had a penalty for cutting the corner, so he wasn’t really in contention for the race win.
