During the ARCA ‘Anywhere is Possible 200’ at Pocono Raceway, Ty Gibbs seized victory after leading most of the race. The 17-year-old is the grandson of NASCAR Hall of Famer and team owner, Joe Gibbs.

Additionally, this is Gibbs Jr’s first win in the 2020 ARCA Menard series. In the process, he adds to his win tally in the same series, with three under his belt.

Speaking in a virtual press conference, Gibbs said, “It feels really good. I’ve come here all my life to watch races and then I come here and win but it’s so hard to describe the feeling. Just amazing. I can’t thank everyone who has made this possible enough. I really like the big tracks. It was just a blast.”

Where did the other drivers finish compared to Ty Gibbs?

Completing the top three at Pocono were Chandler Smith and Sam Mayer respectively. However, Smith was in a distant 2nd and was too far behind Gibbs’ #18 car. Behind Mayer, Bret Holmes and Michael Self completed the top-five and they were no match for the 17-year old Ty Gibbs.

In the 80 lap race, Gibbs led all but 25 of them and took the lead once again on a restart with 21 laps remaining. He didn’t have it easy as Mayer slotted into the runner-up position and mounted an attack for the lead. However, the teenager soaked up the pressure and extended his lead.

With 12 laps to go, Smith took over from Mayer and tried to attack Gibbs and bid for the lead. Unfortunately for him, the youngster was already 3 seconds clear and the gap was steadily building.

It got to a stage where Ty was practically unstoppable and his rivals needed a miracle. In the end, Gibbs won by a comfortable margin and closed in on victory lane.
