Watch: Jimmie Johnson Reveals his IndyCar Desire Hours Before Testing Positive for COVID-19

On Friday, Just hours before the news of Jimmie Johnson testing positive of COVID-19 came out. Jimmie gave an interview about his ambitions for IndyCar and the test with Chip Ganassi.

The news of Jimmie Johnson came as a shock to everyone. And it will surely cast clouds of health safety concerns over the historic NASCAR-IndyCar doubleheader.

Earlier Friday, Johnson held a virtual interview and talked about the upcoming Indy car test at IMS. Fox NASCAR’s Bob Pockrass posted a video of the interview.

Safety is his major concern while joining IndyCar: Jimmie

In the past, Johnson has said that safety concerns would keep him from racing on IndyCar. However, on Friday, he talked about his possible IndyCar plans.

In the interview, he said, “Their safety on ovals has dramatically increased this year with the windscreen. So I’ll keep a close eye on things there and see how the safety level looks,” Johnson said. “I’ve always wanted to race the Indy 500. I’d have to do a lot of selling to my wife to get that pass, but my true desire right now is to just run the road courses.”

In 2020, IndyCar unveiled its upgraded windshield design called the ‘Aeroscreen’ to prevent any debris from hitting the drivers in the open cockpits.

Jimmie Johnson could do a full IndyCar season if things turn out as expected

In the interview, Johnson stated that he would like to first know If he’s any good before deciding on his future in IndyCar. After that, he revealed that if he decides to go forward he will be looking to race in all the 12 street and road races of the IndyCar calendar.

After that, he added, “When I was a kid growing up, the closest IndyCar racing for me was at Long Beach, so one of my hopes is that I am able to race at Long Beach,”
