People say weird things when taken by an overwhelming amount of emotion. Just look at what Chase Elliott said after he missed out on his fifth race win of the season thanks to his teammate, Kyle Larson.

Elliott was so taken by the frustration or the bitterness of what happened, that he forgot where he would be racing next week, which is by the way, Daytona (in case you’re a die-hard Chase Elliott fan).

“Looking forward to going to Bristol next week,” Elliott said in an interview on the front stretch.

However, that wouldn’t be the only time that NASCAR’s most popular driver lost track of time.

“It’s a big deal,” Elliot responded to a question that mentioned the bonus points he earned in a post-race interview. “We’d love to keep adding to it. Obviously, had an opportunity to add to that today but didn’t, so we’ll go to Bristol and try to add to it there. “

His answer was then followed up by a question about going to Daytona next week and how he feels about it, something that made Elliott realize that he is indeed going to Daytona, and not Bristol.

“I don’t know why I keep saying Bristol, we’re going Daytona,” he said. “My bad.”

“For some reason, I’ve had Bristol on my mind, I don’t know why.”

Chase Elliott didn’t show or hide his bitterness with the Watkins Glen result

After ‘the incident’ with Kyle Larson towards the end of the race at the Glen, Chase Elliott was left, very evidently, with a sour taste in his mouth. However, Elliott did all he could to not make his frustration look obvious, or the emotions come to the surface.

But at the same time, he didn’t try to hide it or swallow it either.

This was something that was solidified after his very brief answer to a question in the post-race interview. The #9 driver was asked by a reporter how does he adjust to the fact that both of Larson’s wins this year have come at his expense.

“Just offer congratulations and get excited for next week,” Elliott replied.
