After running an IndyCar race and an Xfinity race, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course has seen a lot of racing action. The track is now filled with rubber marks from the Saturday races. And many people are worried that the rubber in some areas might affect the running of the Cup series races. Stewart-Haas Racing VP Competition and Chase Briscoe’s interim crew chief Greg Zipadelli talks about how much the leftover rubber can affect the Cup series race.

He was talking to Bob Pockrass of Fox NASCAR. Bob posted a clip from their interaction on Twitter. Bob writes, “Will the tire rubber from the road-course line impact Cup drivers Sunday on the oval? SHR VP of Competition Greg Zipadelli gives his thoughts”

In the interview, Greg said that the rubber from the last races won’t be a big concern as the road course and oval track overlap only in a few areas. He said, “There is only a little bit of rubber, and a couple of places on the race track that the Cup cars will run on. the rest of it doesn’t have any rubber on it.

“The track takes the rubber pretty quick”: Stewart-Haas Racing Crew Chief

After that, he talked about the legendary track. And how it behaves differently in the initial laps as compared to the later laps. He added, “We know how tires wear out here at the IMS. So it will be interesting to see how the first 10-15 laps will go. We have run here before in 5-7 laps you get some wear on the tires. The race track takes the rubber pretty quick and it goes away”.
