Injuries can make or break the career of an NBA player. There have been instances where it all goes downhill, like in the case of Derrick Rose. However, for John Wall, the Houston guard is getting the most out of it. After earning $44 million without playing a single game this season, he is making the Rockets pay more. The former All-Star’s agent announced that Wall has exercised his player option and NBA fans called it the greatest heist in NBA history.

There was a time Wall was one of the most dynamic players in the NBA. The former number one overall pick had the speed and charisma on the hardwood. Most known for his time with the Wizards, Wall went on to make five straight All-Star teams.

But the low started from there on out. After signing a monster deal with his draft team, the Wizards traded him away to the Rockets in exchange for Westbrook. With injuries looming the star, he was able to play just 40 games.

With injuries not leaving his side, the second-highest-paid player in the NBA didn’t play a single minute this season. And now, Wall is set to earn another $47 million after exercising his player option.

NBA fans react to John Wall’s decision

Last season, Houston had their eyes on trading the 31-year-old John Wall. Despite Wall being healthy, they reached an agreement for the five-time All-Star to wait for his trade news. However, the Rockets couldn’t find the right exchange. Paying him $44 million, seemed to be the last straw. Now it looks like Wall wants to get as much as he can. His agent, Rich Paul, shocked the NBA world by announcing the Rockets guard will exercise his $47 million player option.

This left the fans in an utter state of shock. In his time off the floor, Wall was doing his all to make a return. And it was clear the Rockets weren’t his franchise. Hence, the NBA fanbase was anticipating his departure. But Wall finessed everyone in the building.

While the agreement between Wall and the Rockets makes it impossible for him to play, the terms can also be revised. As the worst team in the league, the Rockets are lacking star power. Despite his age, Wall still put up 20.6 points in his first season with Houston. There is no proof of the former All-Star’s current shape, but the dynamic guard can surely contribute and add value. Along with being quick, Wall is a great passer and can be a vet leader for his young team.
