The NBA world suffered a tragic loss last year, and people are still having a hard time recovering from it. The Lakers‘ legend Kobe Bryant was gone too soon at the age of 41. He passed away in a tragic helicopter accident which saw the death of eight others as well as his daughter Gianna Bryant.

It looks like the time to honor the legend has come and his wife, Vanessa Bryant, is dropping hints about something that was already being speculated about.

Just a few years ago, the Lakers had done their part in honoring their superstar by hanging his No. 9 and No. 24 in the Staples Center rafters. In fact, the ceremony welcomed many brilliant stars like Magic Johnson, who gave a speech for Bryant, along with Jeanie Buss.

Getting one’s jersey raised is considered a very high honor for any player. But there is one more way that is considered to be even more glorious, and that is getting one’s statue built outside Staples Center.

So far, the only Lakers’ legends part of this elite club are Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Magic Johnson. And after what Vanessa Bryant posted on her Instagram, it looks like Kobe will soon become a member of this club too.

Vanessa posted a video of her showing post-its of things she needs to get in order for the new year. While it included things like building a foundation, LA Olympics 2028, Kobe Inc, and other tasks, what caught everybody’s attention was the note that read ‘Kobe Statue’ and ‘Hall of Fame’. Only players that reach Hall of Famer status get the statue, so is it possible that the statue is actually happening?

How did the Lakers honor Kobe Bryant last season?

Kobe may be gone, but his ‘Mamba mentality’ will live on. Winning a championship last season was most important for the Lakers because they wanted to do it for the man that made the franchise what it is today.

Throughout the Lakers postseason run, they wore his Mamba jersey’s to important games for luck. They replicated his shots on the court and even dropped points on the scoreboard like him.

It didn’t stop there. When the ring ceremony took place it became known that behind each players’ name and number, they embedded a black mamba snake to keep his memory alive. This was a first in NBA history and showed Kobe’s significance to people in the NBA world.

Therefore, if he does get that statue, it will be the happiest day for all Lakers’ fans. Nobody deserves it more than Kobe Bryant.
