The Dallas Mavericks just defeated the Toronto Raptors 111-110. The Mavericks had the game in the bag for most of the four quarters. But the game became awfully close in the last couple of minutes in the fourth. However, what seemed like a normal game between two teams quickly turned into a point of controversy. The post-game interview by Spencer Dinwiddie is what ended up raising a few eyebrows.

During the post-game interview, Spencer Dinwiddie revealed what a veteran NBA official referred to him as. Dinwiddie told the press that referee Tony Brothers referred to him as a ‘b***h a** m*****f*****’ to one of his teammates after calling Dinwiddie for a technical foul.

Dinwiddie was called for a technical foul late in the second quarter of the game. And after the foul was called, it seemed as if longtime official Tony Brothers made that comment about Spencer Dinwiddie.

In his post-game interview, Dinwiddie said, “If you watch the game and I know that’s what refs are supposed to do. You see that I clap to get the attention of my teammates, things of that nature. So it was nothing personal. So as a man, I’d like to say I’m sorry first and foremost.”

“And secondarily I’d like to say, not only would I like my money back, but I would like to not be called a b***h a** m*****f***** to my teammates. So if there’s anybody who feels that way about me, not naming any names, they can address me personally, face to face because no swear words were used in the direction of anybody personally,” he added.

NBA referees have increased the number of technical fouls given to players over the years now. And each of the first five technical fouls given to players in a season carries a $2,000 fine.

How fines for technical fouls work

The amount of the fines increases as players get more technical fouls across the season. After their 15th technical foul for the season, players have to pay a fine of $5,000. The NBA has made it abundantly clear how players in the NBA will be fined whenever they get called for a technical foul.
