It has only been a few hours since the free agency opened and there have already been significant developments around the league. While all eyes are on the Kevin Durant saga, the Miami Heat are making moves for another All-Star. The Heat have submitted a trade offer for three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell. This could prove to be a massive move for all the parties involved.
Acquiring a player of Mitchell’s caliber will instantly make Miami a major threat in the East. After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last season, they needed a player to push them to the next level. The Utah Jazz guard can certainly be relied on to provide the goods.

The Utah Jazz has reached the playoffs every year since drafting Mitchell in 2017. He quickly made a name for himself after becoming the franchise’s best player in his first season. Although the Jazz has faced numerous heartbreaks in the playoffs over the last few years, the 6’1″ guard has been the shining light for them.
Donovan Mitchell has an all-around offensive game and can hurt the opposition in various manners. He proved that with a memorable performance in the first round of the 2020 playoffs against the Denver Nuggets. He averaged 36.3 points in that series while shooting above 50% from both, the field and the three-point range.

The Miami Heat are an excellent defensive team waiting for a consistent offensive spark. While Jimmy Butler is a superstar, he tends to have off nights quite often. Although the Heat has assets to give up, they’ll need a good package to lure the Jazz into trading Mitchell, who still has three years left on his contract.
The making of superstar Donovan Mitchell
Mitchell was drafted with the 13th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. They traded him on draft night to the Utah Jazz. He was selected to the All-Rookie first team after an excellent season with the Jazz in which they reached the playoffs. Mitchell’s career has been on an upward trajectory ever since then as he has been named an All-Star for the past three seasons.
Mitchell is also a Slam-Dunk champion after wowing the crowd and judges alike at the 2018 All-Star weekend. Fans didn’t take the news of the Miami Heat trying to acquire the 25-year-old lightly as they took to Twitter to voice their opinions.
