“Give Me 20 Bucks..”: Years After Declaring Bankruptcy, Disgruntled Dennis Rodman Ripped His Promoters for “Taking Advantage” of Him in 2013

Dennis Rodman earned a great deal of fame with his rebounding brilliance in the NBA. The Chicago Bulls legend earned an estimated $27 million with his contracts in the league. However, Rodman’s unpredictable personality and colorful lifestyle outside the court often led him to financial struggles as he was on the verge of going bankrupt on several occasions during his playing days. Notably, years after eventually declaring bankruptcy, a disgruntled Dennis Rodman once slammed his promoters for ‘taking advantage’ of him.

Dennis Rodman loved spending money, especially on partying, gambling, and drinking. During his NBA days, Rodman was not too keen on investing or saving up. As a result, the currently $500,000 worth Bulls legend had to declare bankruptcy at one point in time After the end of his NBA career in 2000, Rodman used his popularity and sports celebrity status to earn money by making appearances on TV shows and events. During one such appearance, Rodman slammed the promoters for taking ‘advantage’ of his affectionate nature.

According to a 2013 Sports Illustrated report, Rodman made an appearance at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando to sign autographs for fans who paid up to $199 dollars to be a part of the Spooky Empire’s May-Hem event. During an interview at the convention, Rodman expressed his dissatisfaction about how the promoters benefitted from his love for the fans.

Rodman stated, “I hate these kinds of shows. The promoters take advantage of me being alive, being famous or infamous. I’d rather not be here, but it’s hard to turn down my fans. I’ll tell you one thing: I sure ain’t here for the f***ing money. Give me 20 bucks, and I’m ready to rock and roll.”

Rodman shared that he showed up at such shows just for the fans who paid a great deal of money to see him. Moreover, while the seven-time rebounding champ charged around $20,000 to $40,000 for a Stateside event appearance, he charged less for his services at the zombie apocalypse event to promote his book, ‘Dennis the Wild Bull’.

There were many reasons why Dennis Rodman had to declare bankruptcy. Apart from his partying expenditures, the Chicago Bulls legend lost a lot of money in spousal and child support.

Moreover, Rodman’s controversies on the court cost him around $1.5 million in fines. The Worm also got scammed by a fake sports agency.
