“Goku and Vegeta”: LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony Reunite in a “Family” Affair as NBA World Feels Nostalgic

It was in the early days of 2002 when Oak Hill Academy geared up to face St. Vincent-St. Mary from Akron, Ohio. Little did both teams know that they had future NBA All-Stars representing them. Carmelo Anthony walked out in OHA’s jersey while LeBron James flaunted St. Vincent’s jersey.

The duo were stars of their teams and 11,000 people showed up to watch this thriller of a game. The game was highly spoken about because of James’ 36 points and Anthony’s 34. In the matchup, Anthony had the last laugh as his team won by 6 points. Earlier today, fans were left reminiscing about this game after watching the duo on the sidelines of a high school game.

LeBron James’ sons Bronny and Bryce James played a high school game against Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan Anthony. The James siblings represented Sierra Canyon while Kiyan played for Christ the Kings, New York. Bronny bagged 12 points while Kiyan registered a total of 10 points during the game. Their fathers were a witness to Sierra Canyon beating the Kings by 11 points. While watching the game from the sidelines, Anthony and James shared a quick hug giving fans more reasons to be emotional. This family affair soon became the talk of the town.

Nostalgia looms as Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James reunite

Fans were quick to react to the posts put up by Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James. James captioned his post “family” while Anthony said “brothers”. The fans instantly withdrew themselves into a mood of nostalgia during this historic night. This reunion was compared to the characters in the Dragon Ball manga as fans called the two All-Stars “Goku & Vegeta”.

Many addressed the duo as legends while also demanding that the two should play together once again.

Carmelo Anthony on continuing the legacy

During an interview with ESPN, Carmelo Anthony spoke about how James and his kids have grown up together. He claimed that the next generation is on the right path of doing great things on the court. While acknowledging his 20-year-old friendship with the four-time NBA Champion, Anthony highlighted that watching their sons play against each other was a ‘full circle’ moment. He said, “The legacy continues. It don’t stop.” 

James and the 10-time All-Star were teammates during the 2021-22 season. However, now, Carmelo Anthony is a free agent. While he hopes to play more for the NBA, Anthony is aware that not much is in his control. He said, “I can sit back and let it play out, and whatever it’s going to be, it’s going to be and I accept that.”
