Though Michael Jordan went down as one of the greatest players of all time, he rarely tried to get in the good books of his teammates. On the contrary, the 6x NBA champion often picked on them amidst little to no pushback. However, once ‘His Airness’ felt the brunt of his ‘victims’, which resulted in an ugly altercation. The teammate in question here is 3x NBA champion Horace Grant, who has been on the receiving end of MJ’s antics more than once.

Over the last three decades, numerous episodes of Jordan’s locker room antics have resurfaced from various sources. However, some of the most polarizing coverage of the Chicago Bulls locker room comes from Sam Smith’s The Jordan Rules, a book from 1991. In one instance, Smith shed light on the ugly altercation between Grant and Jordan.

Michael Jordan and Horace Grant once locked horns on a plane

It was quite a while before Jordan found any playoff success in his early years. Moreover, the biggest roadblock for the Hall of Famer was the ‘Bad Boys’ Detroit Pistons, who ran laps round the Bulls more than a few times. Similarly, while returning home from a playoff loss against the Pistons in the 1989 Eastern Conference Finals, emotions ran wild on the plane. After having an off night and scoring only 18 points, Jordan was not in the best of moods.

However, 4x All-defensive star Horace had an equally if not worse night, grabbing only one rebound. Consequently, it was only a matter of time before MJ picked on Grant for his performance, which he did on the plane. However, this time around, probably the first time ever, Jordan faced pushback from his teammate.

“That’s a D*mn Snitch Right There”: Former Teammate Bashed Michael Jordan Over Allegations He Made Through “The Last Dance” Series

6’10” Grant didn’t hold back with his outburst; he shot back, as reported by Sam Smith’s The Jordan Rules, “Screw you MJ, all you care about is your points and everyone knows it. You don’t care about anything but yourself.” Unsurprisingly, enraged, Jordan screamed at Grant, “You’re an idiot, you’ve screwed every play we ran. You’re too stupid to even remember the plays. We ought to get rid of you.” Like always, MJ shot down his ‘opponents’ by targeting their weakness, which for Grant was his unfortunate reputation of not being the brightest in the room. Moreover, Jordan also threatened to get rid of him.

Needless to say, an ugly altercation such as this left the team stunned. However, it wasn’t the only time Grant and Jordan locked horns.

MJ allegedly took away Horace Grant’s food due to his performance

Since the airing of the infamous Last DanceJordan’s legacy has been colored with shades of good and bad. But MJ’s former teammates were not the biggest fans of the 10-part docuseries and accused the project of grossly misrepresenting the events. However, Grant had the biggest gripes with the docuseries as he went public with a bizarre story.

Allegedly, after a similarly poor performance, Jordan went out of his way to instruct the flight attendant not to serve Grant any food because he did not play well. After Grant came out with his story, the NBA world was left in utter disbelief.
