The uber-popular Dancing With The Stars has witnessed high-profile individuals from all walks of life, including NBA players, dance away for the mirrorball trophy. Some notable names from the NBA world include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Meta World Peace, Charles Oakley, Ime Shumpert, and more. Similarly, 2x NBA champion Lamar Odom also appeared on the show in 2019 alongside talented choreographer Peta Murgatroyd. However, a few months ago, the Australian-born Latin Dancer, who has appeared on the show for over 13 seasons, made a startling confession about dancing with basketball players.

Moreover, she subtly gave her pick between NBA players and NFL players who fared well and best followed the routines.

In her illustrious stint on the American iteration of Dancing With the Stars, Peta Murgatroyd has danced with celebrities from every profession imaginable. Needless to say, she would be the best person to comment on these stars’ dancing abilities. Likewise, she did just that in an interview with Maxim late last year. She was asked who produced the best dancers, the gridiron or the NBA hardwood. Murgatroyd picked the NFL side while also giving her reasoning behind not picking basketball players.

While reflecting on her past NBA partners on the show, she picked out Lamar Odom, with whom she finished tenth in 2019. She said, “Basketball players are so huge. I’ve danced with six-foot-ten, I’ve danced with Lamar Odom. It’s really difficult.” She then delineated how it was working with the former NBA player. She said, “He did the best he could. I feel like he was still struggling remembering and stuff like that, I was just happy to be there with him, happy to go super slow through all the moves so he got it. And again, super tall, beyond tall.”

Murgatroyd was not the only one who had a tough time in the partnership. Odom, who suffered a life-threatening situation in 2015, was well on his way to recovery when he appeared on the show. Regardless, his brief stint while practicing with Peta forced him to make a bold declaration. While juxtaposing the NBA and dancing on the show, He said, “For me there is no comparison, One comes naturally to me and one I have to learn. I would have to say DWTS is harder.”

NBA players on DWTS

Like Odom, Peta partnered up with another Los Angeles Lakers champion in Meta World Peace back in 2011. Owing to the tall order of choreographing around NBA players, she finished 12th. Similarly, making up the long list of Lakers stars who appeared on DWTS are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rick Fox, and Derek Fisher. The 6x NBA champion placed seventh in season 26, Fox placed sixth in season 11, and Fisher placed 11th in season 25.
