Anthony Edwards’ fame continues to grow as he draws GOAT comparisons again from the fans. Edwards helped his 7th seeded team take a 1-0 lead against the 2nd seeded Grizzlies in Memphis, and Twitter erupted. And, it was Edwards’ first-ever playoff game.

The final score read 130-117. Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 36 points with 6 assists. Karl-Anthony Towns pitched in with 29 points while making 11/18 shots, and 13 rebounds.

Anthony Edwards became the first Minnesota player in 18 years to score more than 30 in a playoff game. The last one to do so was Timberwolves legend, Kevin Garnett.

This sensational display in his debut has left NBA fans in awe as they pondered what he can achieve when he develops at this rate. And, fans have already started comparing Edwards with some of the all-time greats like Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Anthony Edwards’ growth

The #1 pick of the 2020 NBA draft continues to meet expectations as he grows. In his rookie year, he averaged 19.3 points per game, 2.9 assists per game, and 4.7 rebounds per game. He was available for all 72 games and started 52 for the Timberwolves

In the 2021-22 regular season, Anthony Edwards averaged 21.3 points per game, 3.8 assists per game, and 4.8 rebounds per game while starting 72 games.

The Minnesota Timberwolves is a good team with a young core of star players, and they continue to grow together as a team. 

D’Angelo Russell scoring just 10 points against the Grizzlies might be a concern for the Wolves. But Malik Beasley came up with 23 points of his own from the bench.

If Karl-Anthony Towns and Edwards continue what they did today, along with help from players like D’Angelo Russell, Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, etc, they can eliminate the Grizzlies.

But make no mistake Ja Morant and the Grizzlies are no pushovers. Ja Morant scored 32 points against the Wolves. But Steven Adams’ struggles were apparent. While the fans don’t expect Adams to score double digits, he didn’t attempt a single field goal today. Also, for someone who averages 10 rebounds per game, he could only muster up 2 defensive rebounds and 1 offensive.
