“Is This Real? Should I Cry?”: Witnessing Two Harsh Demises in Front of His Eyes, “Numb” Kevin Durant Was Clueless in His Younger Days

Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant has been through a lot. Belonging from humble beginnings, he had to work hard in order to make it big. He witnessed the death of two close people, while he was still fairly young, which shook him.

Moreover, they were the inspiration behind one of his jersey numbers and his tattoos. He watched his aunt pass away at a very young age which left him numb. On top of that, his AAU coach was also murdered which added to the young kid’s misery.

Kevin Durant was shook after witnessing two demises

Former NBA champion Kevin Durant has won almost everything there is to win. He has two NBA titles to his name alongside an MVP award and multiple Finals MVP awards. Moreover, he also has numerous scoring titles and has three Olympic Gold Medals.

However, he had to work a lot since his childhood in order to make it big in the NBA. While Durant was fairly young, his aunt passed away in front of him due to cancer.

Durant said, “I was numb to it, I was numb to death, because I didn’t think it would happen, but it happened so close to me. And I didn’t know what to think. Is this real? Should I cry? What should I do? I don’t know what to do.”

KD was just 11 years old back then and witnessing his Aunt pass away in his childhood home really left a mark on him. On top of that, his first AAU coach was murdered at the young age of 35. This was the reason why he wore the number 35 back in the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder days.

Durant missed the All-Star weekend due to his grandmother’s demise

The 2021-22 season All-Star Weekend honored the NBA’s 75th anniversary and had almost all the stars in attendance. However, Durant was nowhere to be seen.

He missed the game and all the festivities due to his grandmother’s death. Wanda Durant, mother of Kevin Durant had announced that her mother had passed away back in February 2021. Durant was already set to miss the All-Star game as he was sidelined with an injury during that period.
